  1. General Requirements
    State Registered Appraisal Assistant
    1. Complete 60 hours of Appraisal coursework
    2. Complete 3 hours of Fair Housing Law
    3. Complete 15 hours of National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)
    4. Submit your Appraiser Assistant Application

    State-Licensed Residential Appraiser
    1. Complete the mandatory requirements to become a State Registered Real Estate Appraisal Assistant plus an additional 15 hours of Real Estate Appraisal coursework
    2. Complete 2,000 experience hours*
    3. Submit your License Examination Application
    4. Pass the Licensed Residential Appraiser Exam
    5. Submit your Exam Score Report to receive your license
    State-Certified Residential Appraiser
    1. Complete the mandatory requirements to become a State Registered Real Estate Appraisal Assistant plus an additional 45 hours of Real Estate Appraisal coursework
    2. Complete 2,500 experience hours*
    3. Submit your Certificate Examination Application
    4. Pass the Certified Residential Appraiser Exam
    5. Submit your Exam Score Report to receive your license
    State-Certified General Appraiser
    1. Complete the mandatory requirements to become a State Registered Real Estate
      Appraisal Assistant plus an additional 105 hours of Real Estate Appraisal coursework
    2. Complete 3,000 experience hours**
    3. Submit your Certificate Examination Application
    4. Pass the Certified General Appraiser Exam
    5. Submit your Exam Score Report to receive your license

  2. Steps To Licensure
    1. Register for and complete the required hours of classroom pre-licensing education.
    2. Apply with the state to become a State Registered Appraiser Assistant.
    3. Complete the required experience hours.
    4. Once you have completed the required hours for your chosen license you must submit a License or Certification Examination Application, course completion certificates, experience log, and all applicable fees to the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing. Instructions for completion and fee information can be found on the application. Applications can be downloaded from the Ohio Division of Real Estate's Web site: www.com.state.oh.us/real
    5. The Division will review your application and determine your eligibility to test and will notify PSI Exams. PSI Exams will then send you a Candidate Information Bulletin which will have an examination Notice of Eligibility indicated on the back page.
    6. Once you have received your Notice of Eligibility, you must schedule and pass your chosen exam within one year.
    7. In order to receive your certificate of license, you must submit your score report and the required fees to the Division of Real Estate within one year of successfully passing your exam.

  3. Exam Information
    Testing Dates and Locations
    You may test at any PSI Exams center across the United States. A complete list of testing centers is available by visiting PSI's Website at PSI Exams.

    Scheduling your Exam

    After receiving your Examination Eligibility from PSI Exams, you may register for and schedule your exam by calling 1-800-733-9267. Or, you may register for and schedule your exam online by going to PSI Exams.

  4. Additional Information
    Please note that exam fees must be paid in order to schedule your exam. All exam fees are nonrefundable. For each exam retake, you must submit a retake application and applicable fees to the Ohio Division of Real Estate before you can schedule a re-examination.

    * These hours must be achieved over a period of not less than 24 months immediately preceding the initial filing of your application.

    ** These hours must be achieved over a period of not less than 30 months immediately preceding the initial filing of your application. Other requirements may apply. Visit www.com.state.oh.us/real/ for more information.

    *** Appraisal Pre-Licensing education used for registration must have been obtained within 3 years prior to application.
