Ohio Insurance Law Changes

New Information for Hondros College Insurance Students

Beginning July 1, 2007, the State of Ohio moved to a new Insurance testing vendor. The new vendor, Promissor can be contacted at (800) 275-8361 or www.promissor.com . Promissor is actively accepting exam appointments at this time.

In addition to changing testing vendors, the State of Ohio has also changed the application process. For those students who will be testing with Promissor you will follow a "new" licensing process. This process is:

  1. Complete your Hondros College classroom education and register with Promissor for your licensing exam. The only prerequisite to taking your Promissor exam are the certificates or completion provided by Hondros College at the end of your licensing class.
  2. Pass the Promissor licensing exam.
  3. Apply for your OH Insurance License by completing the NAIC Producer Model Application . This application can be done at the Promissor location. In order to complete the application at the testing location Promissor will charge a $5 NIPR fee to complete the application on site. This can only be paid by credit or debit card. There are no requirements to complete the license application at Promissor but it could reduce the amount of time you'll wait to receive your Ohio Insurance license.
  4. Complete your background check. All Promissor testing locations have contracted with NBCI to have a fingerprinting station on site. The cost is $35 dollars. Payment is made at the time fingerprints are taken. The only acceptable forms of payment are a credit or debit card.

*The Ohio Department of Insurance and Hondros College recommend filling out the NAIC Producer application prior to arriving at the testing location. The application requires specific employment background information including supervisor names, contact numbers etc…. that you may not have on the day of the exam* Also, if you answer "yes" to any question please remember to submit any necessary additional information with your application - any delay in that data will result in a delay in receiving your OH Insurance license.
