I have been blessed throughout my career in nursing to be a part of so many wonderful things. Looking back, it’s incredible that every step, every detour, and every adventure has led me to where I am today. I cannot picture myself anywhere else. I am beyond honored to be a part of our nursing students' journey. Their passion, motivation, and story drive my desire to give back and guide them as they step out into the ever-changing world of healthcare. A world where they need to not only apply the foundations of nursing but be empowered to go forth and advocate for those patients in their care, communities, and neighborhoods. I love witnessing their growth and watching them seize the opportunity to leave someone better than they found them and effectively lead the change desperately needed in healthcare today. There is no greater calling.
As the Assistant Director of Nursing for the ADN program, I am fortunate to work not only with the students but with unbelievable faculty and support staff every day. Being a part of a team that gives selflessly to those around them while upholding the values and integrity of the profession and the college makes coming to work not feel like work.
My tip for success in nursing school is to ensure you have put systems in place to reach your goals, whether the long-term goals of graduating and passing the NCLEX or the short-term goals you set each term. Having systems in place to fall back on when life throws you a curve ball will help you stay on track and improve your chances of success.
Outside work, I spend time with my family and pets, working out, gardening, tending to my chickens and goats, and antiquing.
