I chose to pursue nursing as a career because it aligns with my passion for helping others and making a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Nursing offers a unique combination of science and compassion, where I can apply clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes while providing emotional support. The dynamic nature of healthcare, with its continuous learning and opportunities for growth, also attracted me. Additionally, the ability to collaborate closely with patients and be an advocate for their well-being resonates with my values and desire to contribute to the community in a noticeable way.
I decided to attend Hondros College of Nursing because of its proximity to home and the length of the program. The key to nursing school is time management, consistent studying, active participation in both lecture and lab, collaboration with classmates, resilience, and persistence. I prioritize tasks and create a schedule to stay organized, ensuring that I meet deadlines for assignments, exams, and clinicals all while balancing my personal time. When faced with challenges, such as difficult courses or demanding clinical rotations, I maintain a positive mindset and persevere, adapting my approach when necessary to overcome obstacles. I work well in group settings with classmates, sharing resources and studying together to enhance our collective learning, while also practicing teamwork essential to nursing. These behaviors help me stay focused, continuously improve, and achieve my goals in nursing school.
If you are considering starting nursing school, I would advise preparing for a challenging but rewarding journey. Some things that help me include staying organized, prioritizing self-care, being adaptable to changes, asking for help, and always remembering your “why.” Always remembering your "why" will get you through the hardest times.
I am currently working a few PRN positions, including skilled nursing, long-term care, and memory care. My goal after graduation is to work in the operating room.
